Velma A. Plate, 102

EAST LIVERPOOL – Velma A. Plate, formerly of St. Rt. 45, Wellsville, passed away at 9:35 a.m. with her daughters at her side, on Monday February 19, 2018, at The Orchards of East Liverpool. She was 102.

Born near Ohioville, Pennsylvania, February 17, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Harry B. and Lois Dailey Garvin. A lifetime area resident, she worked in the cafeteria of the W. Point School at one time. Velma was also a member of the Riverside Presbyterian Church in Wellsville.

Her husband, Charles A. Plate, preceded her in death in 1978. She was also preceded in death by a daughter Lois Betteridge, her son Charles E. Plate, one grandson Jeffrey L. Clark, one great-great-granddaughter Alexandria Groubert, and two brothers, Harry and John Weir.

Survivors include her two daughters, Arleen Clark Wise, of Wellsville, and Patricia Carlson Koehler of Pittsburgh.

She dearly loved her family and she will be fondly remembered by her 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home by Chaplain Lisa Elliott of Community Hospice. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday prior to the service. Following the service family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for a time of fellowship.

Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.
