Obituary for James L. "Jim" Williams
James L. “Jim” Williams passed away at the age of 91 on Wednesday, February 28, 2018. Jim had resided in Oviedo, Florida, since 1992 but had come back to this area when becoming ill recently, and died at Calcutta Health Care Center.
He was born in Niles, Ohio on November 13, 1926, a son of the late Lewis H. and Alberta Grace Duke Williams.
A World War II veteran, he proudly served with the U.S. Navy. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign War #66, the Disabled American Veterans #47, and also belonged to the American Legion Post #374.
An electrician by trade, he worked for over 43 years with IBEW Union Local #246, spending 22 of those years with Sayre Electric in East Liverpool.
He had been a member of Longs Run Church, where he served as an elder at one time. During his time in Florida, he faithfully attended Oviedo Presbyterian Church.
His wife, Carrie C. Griffiths Williams, preceded him in death on August 25, 1990. They were married March 3, 1948.
Jim is survived by his children: Barbara Floyd of Pickerington, Ohio; James C. Williams and his wife, Cathy, of Warren, Ohio; and Richard A. “Rick” Williams and his wife, Kim, of East Liverpool.
There are nine grandchildren: Wendy Woodward and her husband, Scott; Jason Morse and his wife, Marie; Lisa Barrett and her husband, David; James Williams; Eric Williams; Christopher Williams; Evan Dotson; Nicole Bahen and her husband, Jeremy; and Hunter Dotson.
Also surviving are six great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews, along with a brother, Stephen J.C. Williams.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded by a sister, Doris Persohn, and by two brothers, Robert B. Williams and Wayne E. Williams.
Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday and again from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Pastor Mark Blakeley of Wellsville First Christian Church will conduct a service at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors.
Following the burial, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for a continued time of fellowship.
