Obituary for Carol Jean Waggle (Garland)

Carol Jean Waggle, 75, of East Liverpool, passed away at East Liverpool City Hospital at 9:08 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2018, following a lengthy battle with COPD. She is now resting peacefully and breathing the sweet air of Heaven.

A daughter of the late James and Alda Cooper Garland, Carol was born in Pittsburgh on October 15, 1942. She and her family came to this area when she was a young girl, and she remained in East Liverpool the rest of her life. She was a 1960 graduate of East Liverpool High School, where she met her future husband, Richard “Rich” Waggle; they were married in 1965.

Carol learned the value of hard work from her parents early on, and had worked in many capacities throughout her life. She had been a dental assistant for Dr. Jay Kinsey and Dr. Rivelle. For many years, she co-owned the Convenient Mart along with her good friend, Sue Giambroni; she also worked five years at Ferro Porcelain, and retired in 2007 as a nurse’s aide at East Liverpool City Hospital. Carol was an avid tennis player and enjoyed playing golf until becoming ill. She always treated others with the utmost kindness and compassion, and especially loved caring for her family.

In addition to her husband, Carol leaves behind her son, Dr. Brian James Waggle and his wife, Mary Kay. Her son, Stephen Jay “Steve” Waggle, preceded her in death in 2016. Carol is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Cooper, Clare, Paige and Alex.

In addition, Carol is survived by a brother, Gary Garland and his wife, Patty. A brother, Ron Garland, also preceded her in death, but Carol remained close with his wife, Gail Garland, who survives. She will be missed by her large extended family and friends whom she loved, especially Dave and Cindy Waggle and Bob and Karen Walker.

Pastor Norm Eckert of Beechwood Free Methodist Church will officiate at a service to remember Carol’s life, as well as the life of her son, Steve, at the Dawson Funeral Home. The service will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Friday, from 3 p.m. until the time of the service.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for a continued time of fellowship.

Burial will take place at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
