Obituary for Mary E. Schneidmiller (Graham)

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Mary Eleanor Schneidmiller passed away suddenly on Sunday afternoon, March 11, 2018 at her home on Eagle Drive in East Liverpool. Mary, who was 82, is most assuredly celebrating a life that was well lived as a good and faithful servant, with her Heavenly Father.

A daughter of the late Wayne and Lena Hindman Graham, Mary was born in Fairview, Pennsylvania on June 18, 1935. She was a 1953 graduate of Midland High School, and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Kent State University in 1986, after her children were grown.

On October 20, 1954, she married Kenneth L. “Ken” Schneidmiller, Sr., and was the absolute love of his life. One was rarely seen without the other, and their devotion to one another and to their Lord and Savior was an inspiration to all who have known them.

Her faith was the foundation of her life. She and Ken were longtime members of First Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where Mary enjoyed her time with the Tuesday morning ladies’ Bible Study. During her high school years, Mary had accompanied the school choir, and her love of music remained throughout her life; she had served as the pianist for countless church services, and had also accompanied her sister-in-law, Bobbie, at various venues around town.

Mary was a loving mother and homemaker, and she later returned to college to earn her degree so that she could do what she had always come naturally to her… teaching. She spent the majority of her career as a first-grade teacher at East Liverpool Christian School, where her kindness, compassion and genuine concern for her students was apparent and appreciated. She found the time to carefully listen to the needs of others without ever judging; her conversations were filled with her love of life, humility, gratitude and prayer.

In addition to Ken, she is survived by her children: two daughters, Beth Weir and her husband, Tommy; and Gretchen Winland and her husband, Kenny; and one son, Kenneth L. “Kenny” Schneidmiller, Jr., all of East Liverpool. Mary was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Amy Rose Schneidmiller, who died on November 9, 2009.

Mary cherished her grandchildren, Tatum Schneidmiller and Logan Winland, and treasured being an integral part of their lives, whether it was following their school and sporting events or cooking Sunday dinners every week in her kitchen; she was happiest when her entire family sat around the table for the meals she had prepared.

Mary also leaves behind her great-granddaughter, Kaseea, along with numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a brother, Albert Graham and his wife, Sonja, of Texas. A sister, Lois Dalton, preceded Mary in death.

Friends may visit with Mary’s family from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Dawson Funeral Home.

Rev. Mack Gray of the church will conduct a service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mary will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery. Following the burial, friends and family will return to the Dawson Family Center for a continued time of fellowship.

Those wishing to do so may make gifts in Mary’s name to Partners in Bible Translation, c/o Ken and Sue Sawka, P.O. Box 455, Richmond, Ohio 43944.
