Obituary for Evelyn "Jean" Beaver

Evelyn Jean Smith Beaver, formerly of East Liverpool, passed away at the age of 91 at The Courtyard at Lexington Assisted Living Center in Salem on Saturday evening, March 24, 2018.

A daughter of the late Charles Leroy Smith and Olive D. Wyke Smith, Jean was born December 26, 1926.

She was a 1944 graduate of East Liverpool High School and had been a longtime music educator, primarily at the former Celli Music Center and Fraley’s Music House. A private tutor, she had also taught piano and organ lessons for many years.

In addition, she had been the church organist for 30 years at the Grace Baptist Temple, where she had also served as secretary. Jean enjoyed the friendships she had made through the Jolly Sixties group at the church, and she was at the center of virtually every meal function there. A beach-lover at heart, she was always ready for a road trip to Myrtle Beach with church friends.

Preceding her in death on October 13, 1999 was her husband, Edward L. Beaver, whom she married on February 21, 1946.

There are two sons, Ray E. Beaver of East Liverpool, and Edward Beaver and his wife, Marjorie, of North Benton, Ohio, as well as a granddaughter, Courtney Rae Nolsheim and her husband, Brad, of Boardman. A grandson, Scott Beaver, preceded Jean in death on March 21, 2012.

Additional survivors include a sister, Phyllis Sayre and her husband, Richard, of Columbiana, and a brother, Charles “Dave” Smith and his wife, Pam, of East Liverpool. There are several step-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home.

Reverend Wayne Cox of Grace Baptist Temple will officiate at a service to be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Jean will be laid to rest at Longs Run Cemetery.

Friends and family will then gather at the Dawson Family Center for a continued time of fellowship and lunch.

Those wishing to do so may send contributions in lieu of flowers in Jean’s memory to The Courtyard at Lexington Assisted Living, 2345 Lexington Avenue, Salem, Ohio 44460.
