Obituary for Harley Alfred "Alf" Butler

Alf Butler, 89

JACKSONVILLE, FL – Harley “Alf” Butler, longtime East Liverpool resident, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2018 at University of Florida Health. He was 89.

Born in East Liverpool, January 18, 1929, he was a son of the late Thomas C. Butler, Sr. and Beulah Wilson Butler. Alf was a member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1946. A career veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he served in Vietnam. He returned to this area in 1971 and worked at the Hall China Company as a foreman until retiring in 1992.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte A. Tucker Butler on September 13, 2011. The couple married March 11, 1953. He was also preceded in death by a son William Butler and four brothers: Roy, Thomas, George and Earl Butler.

Survivors include a daughter Diana Merritt, and her husband Ron Jr., of Yulee, Florida, as well as a son, Brett Butler, and his wife Paula, of East Liverpool. There are nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren as well as a brother David M. Butler of East Palestine.

A memorial visitation will be Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m. at the Dawson Family Center.

Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.
