EAST LIVERPOOL - Gwendolyn M. “Gwen” Hales, of East Liverpool, passed from this world into the loving arms of our Lord Friday, August 24, 2018 at the East Liverpool City Hospital with her devoted daughter by her side. She was 96.

Born in East Liverpool, May 5, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Charles William and Mary Perks Sillince. Gwen worked professionally at the Ohio Bell Telephone Company as an assistant chief operator until 1950. She later assumed her duties as a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was a life-long member of the faith community of St. Stephens Episcopal Church where she was a member of the former St. Margaret’s Guild.

For many years she and her husband Bill were active members of the Elks Lodge #258. As a Lady Elk she held a number of various offices and committee chair posts throughout the years. Gwen was also an avid sports enthusiast. She especially loved listening to the radio broadcast during each ELHS football season cheering on our Potter athletes. She was also a great fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns. A member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1940, she was also a member of the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association and its Olde Guard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Hales on January 6, 1986. The couple married May 3, 1949. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by three brothers Edmund Sillince, William Sillince and Guy Sillince.

She is survived by her loving daughter Linda Sue Hales with whom she resided, as well as a sister Ruth Croxall of Columbiana, and a sister-in-law Dorothy Hales of Toledo, along with several loving nieces and nephews.
