Obituary for Cornell Nizer (Christian)

Mrs. Cornell Nizer, longtime resident of Harvey Avenue, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014, at the Hospice of the Western Reserve in Cleveland. She was 82.

Born in East Liverpool, September 14, 1931, she was a daughter of the late William and Willie Eva Allen Christian. She lived in East Liverpool her entire life and worked as a meter maid at one time but above all things in life she was first a wife and mother to her family.

Cornell was a loyal and faithful member of the Second Baptist Church where she was the chair of the Women’s Ministry, Deaconess, church clerk, choir member, usher, Sunday school teacher, active with the Seasoned Saints Ministry, and assisted with the Feeding Program. She was also a volunteer with the Ohio Valley Missionary Union, a member of the Tri-State Community Choir, and a member of the Emanon Club.

Her husband, William R. Nizer, Sr., preceded her in death on December 14, 2004.

She will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Marlane Mackley, and her husband Lamont, of Shaker Heights, and Adrienne Smith, and her husband Michael, of Columbus, as well as four sons, William R. Nizer, Jr. of Columbus, Robert Nizer, Sr., and his wife Diana, of East Liverpool, Daniel Nizer, Sr., and his wife Yolanda, of Bedford Heights, Ohio, and Rodney Nizer, and his wife Lena, of New Hampshire.

There are three brothers, Charles Christian of Warren, Ohio, William Adolf Christian of East Liverpool, and Clifton Christian of East Liverpool.

She also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were three sisters, Doris Ann Campbell, Geraldine Christian and Eleanor Jane Christian, along with three brothers, Wesley Christian, Raymond Christian and Roy Christian.

Friends may visit Thursday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Rev. Ernest Peachey will conduct a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Second Baptist Church.

Burial will be at Calcutta Cemetery.

Following the service, family and friends will gather at the church for fellowship.
