Obituary for Irene Brock (Napier)

IRENE NAPIER BROCK, 96

EAST LIVERPOOL – Irene Napier Brock is singing in Heaven with the angels. She is no longer in pain, and is sitting at the feet of Jesus as he welcomes her into heaven and is telling her, “Well done, good and faithful servant, with you I am well pleased”. Irene went to be with her Lord on February 14, 2015, she was just a month away from her 97th birthday. She was born on March 2, 1918 at Simm’s Fork, Bell County Kentucky, the daughter of the late James Thomas Napier and Lucy Bailey Napier.

On October 18, 1941, she married her childhood sweetheart, Robert William Brock. He was the love of her life and on November 28, 1942, they had a son, Robert William Brock Jr. Her husband was called to serve his country in WWII and served with distinction in the Pacific theater. He was killed on February 8, 1945 on Luzon Island in the Philippines. She never remarried, saying that no man could ever take his place in her heart.

The Lord Jesus was the most important person in Irene’s life. She was active at the Bird Branch Baptist Church where she served as song leader for twenty-five years. She loved to entertain and would often invite the whole church to her home for lunch after Sunday service. She was known for her cooking and as anyone who had the privilege of enjoying her Chicken and Dumplings can attest to, that reputation was well earned.

After the death of her parents, she moved to Florida to be closer to her only son, Bob, and his family. She was active in their lives and thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren and later, her great grandchildren. She loved to tell stories of her childhood on the farm during the Depression and was the family historian, if you needed any information about the family, she was the one to ask.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Thomas and Lucy Bailey Napier; her husband, Robert William Brock; two sisters, Hattie (TIlmon) Rice and Lilly (Jim) Knuckles; and two brothers, Andrew Jackson (Bonnie) Napier and Robert Lee (Lucy) Napier.

She is survived by her son Robert William Brock, Jr and his wife, Margaret Sue LeFevers Brock; three grandchildren: Pamela (Tim) Ford of Calcutta, Robert (Bonnie) Brock III, of Pittsburgh, PA, and Christopher (Coria) Brock of Calcutta; and seven great-grandchildren: Brock, Elena, Matthew, Elizabeth, Croesus, Emma, and Christopher, Jr.

The family would like to include special thanks to Dr. Kamlesh Aggarwal and the staff of Nentwicks Nursing Home for their caring and kindness through her last days. You don’t know how much it meant to us.

Services will be held at the Dawson Funeral Home in East Liverpool, OH on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with visitation Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
