Obituary for Carolyn Nila Pollock (Stewart)

Carolyn Nila Pollock, 81, slipped into eternal rest Wednesday afternoon, May 6, 2015 at her home on Peake Street, where she had raised her children and spent over 64 years with her devoted husband, Sheridan. He, along with loving family members, were at her side at the time of her death at 3:15 p.m.

Born on December 16, 1933 in Wallace, WV, she was a daughter of the late Ashby W. and Mildred Grace Hayhurst Stewart. She came to East Liverpool as a young girl, and was educated here. At the age of 17, she met and soon married her husband, and almost immediately began caring for her father-in-law when he became widowed. From that point on, Carolyn continued as the “consummate caregiver” throughout her life, and was consistently supportive of her children, grandchildren, extended family and many friends.

Carolyn enjoyed life, plain and simple, but especially loved weekend cookouts with all the “kids”, hiking in the mountains of Pennsylvania, traveling to Las Vegas and Florida with friends, gambling at Mountaineer Casino, and playing bingo at the American Legion – as well as cheering for the Steelers.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters and a son: Tracy Dawson and her husband, Russ, of East Liverpool; Jill Woolmaker and her husband, Troy, also of East Liverpool; and Kim Pollock and his wife, Kerry, of Chester, VA.

There are nine grandchildren: Aaron Pollock; Amy Darmstedter and her husband, Joe; Benjamin Champ and his wife, Elizabeth; Jenny Longo and her husband, Rocco; Julianne Dawson and her fiancé, Austin James; Meredith Dawson; Asheleigh Woolmaker; Alyson Woolmaker; and Troy Woolmaker II. Two great-grandchildren, Molly Darmstedter and Rocco Longo IV, also survive.

In addition, there is a sister, Patricia Stewart, along with two nieces, Stephanie Potvin and Tiffany Comerford, and a sister-in-law, Constance Stewart. Carolyn was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald W. Stewart.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Friday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Pastor John Smith will officiate at services to be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will take place at Columbiana County Memorial Park, followed by a continued time of fellowship at Northside Church Fellowship Hall.
