John Grafton Barrett, Jr., 71

WEST POINT, OHIO – John Grafton Barrett, Jr., of State Route 518, West Point, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2016 at the Vista Center in Lisbon following a courageous two-year battle with cancer. He was 71.

Born in East Liverpool, July 11, 1945, he was a son of the late John Grafton Barrett and Mary A. Birtcher Barrett. A resident of this area all his life, he most recently worked as a truck driver at Ed Wilson and Son Trucking. He previously worked for the Madison Township Road Department.

A Vietnam Veteran, he served with the U.S. Army. For 38 years, John was active with the West Point Volunteer Fire Department where he was the assistant chief.

His wife of 51 years, Sandy L. Barrett, resides at home. He is also survived by a daughter, Kim Montgomery and her husband, Steve, of Green, Ohio and a son, Mark Lee Barrett and his wife, Michelle, of New Middletown, Ohio. He will also be remembered by a grandson, Noah Lee Barrett, two step-grandchildren, Matthew Montgomery and his wife, Blayna, and Tiffany Montgomery, and four step-great-grandchildren.

Other survivors include three sisters, Ellen Shaw of East Liverpool, Ada Perkins and her husband, Jim, of Poland, and Alma Rose Fields and her husband, Clarence, of Salem, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He will also be sadly missed by his beloved dog Button.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Pelley, Naomi Dye and Mary Alice Lewis, and a brother Robert W. Barrett.

Friends may visit Sunday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 6 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Spring Grove Cemetery where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct military honors.
