Obituary for Janet L Adkins (Reed)

Janet Louise (Reed) Adkins, age 73, of East Liverpool, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Salem Community Hospital after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.

Janet was born November 24, 1943 in East Liverpool to Joseph G. Reed and Edith J. (Newlen) Reed. She was born with a twin sister Jeannette (Reed) Sterling. Janet was married to Jerry L. Adkins on July 5, 1986; they were married 30 years.

She was a 1961graduate of East Liverpool High School. Her work career included jobs at Western Union, Hills Department Store, Foodland, Giant Eagle, Columbiana County Sheriff’s Department and Eastern Ohio Corrections Facility, where she retired in June of 2015. She was also a lifelong member of the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association and worked as an alumni committee member. Janet also belonged to the First Church of Christ (Disciples).

Family and friends were Janet’s passion and delight. She loved to host holiday gatherings at her home for the entire family. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Michigan Wolverines football fan. She was also a long-time season ticket holder for East Liverpool basketball and football games. Her hobbies included scrapbooking, attending the Twinsburg Festival annually with her sister Jeannette, Black Friday shopping, and spending quality time with her family. Her proudest accomplishment was being able to make a positive influence and a difference in the lives of the residents at Eastern Ohio Corrections Facility.

Janet is survived by her husband, Jerry L. Adkins; her daughter Elizabeth M. (Atlas) Wines and her companion Dickie Shilling; her granddaughter Rochelle E. Russell and her companion Joshua Stansbury; her grandson Joseph D. Wines and his wife Dr. Mallory Wines; her granddaughter Brandi L. Wines; her great-grandchildren Kaleb Bailey, Damon Stansbury and Preston Stansbury; her (twin) sister Jeannette A. (Reed) Sterling and her husband Robert D. Sterling of Fredericksburg, Ohio; her two nephews Charles E. Sterling and Robert V. Sterling with his wife Kelly Sterling of Worthington, Indiana; her great-niece Cheyanne T. Sterling and her companion Garth Martin; her great-nephew Dakota C. Sterling; and her great-great niece Avery W. Martin.

Janet is survived by stepchildren Ronda Tatgenhorst and her husband Bob Tatgenhorst, Craig Adkins and his wife Edna Adkins, Lorie Karmie and her husband Dale Karmie, and Jackie Wolf and her husband Robb Wolf; her granddaughter Stacie Ganancial and her husband Ray Ganancial; her granddaughter Brittany Ross and her husband Michael Ross; her granddaughter Sydney Tatgenhorst and her fiancé Jesse Smith; her granddaughter Cristy Adkins; her grandson Derek Karmie and his companion Tess Gilbert; her granddaughters Kaylyn Karmie, Makenna Karmie, and JenniLee Karmie; her grandson Colton Karmie; her grandson Dylan Wolf and his wife Christine Wolf; her grandson Hayden Wolf and his wife Megan Wolf; her grandson Mason Wolf; her great-grandchildren Liam Ganancial, Zayden Ross, Brogan Ross, Quinn Ross and Brinley Ross.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Sunday, where the family will be present from 3-8 p.m.

Pastor Willard “Chuck” Adkins of the church will conduct a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Immediately following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for a continued time of fellowship.
