Obituary for Mark Gordon Brick

Mark G. Brick, who bravely battled Multiple Sclerosis with courage and optimism, peacefully entered his Heavenly home on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, where his mother, father and other loved ones were waiting for him. A lifelong resident of East Liverpool, he had spent over 30 years at his home on Williams Avenue, but passed away at Boardman Mercy Health Center.

A son of the late Gordon D. and Marjorie Bloor Brick, he was born in East Liverpool on February 12, 1955, and had just celebrated his 63rd birthday. He was a 1973 graduate of East Liverpool High School. For over ten years, he was employed in the Water and Sewer Department for the City of East Liverpool until his illness.

In spite of his physical limitations, Mark was an enthusiastic supporter of the Pittsburgh Steelers. His entire home was a colorful Steelers display which brought him a great deal of happiness, and those who knew him best would remember him cheering on the Black and Gold even in the worst of times. A self-proclaimed car buff, he had a keen interest in anything with an engine – and he especially enjoyed watching car shows on television (when he wasn’t watching CNN.)

From the time he was a young boy, he belonged to the First United Methodist Church, as did a long line of Bloor family members.

Surviving him is his daughter and the “light of his life”, Sunny Rae Brick, of East Liverpool. Mark will also be missed by his constant companion and trusted friend, his Calico cat, Brooke.

He also leaves behind his sister, Jennifer Barnard and her husband, Randy; along with a brother, David W. Brick and his wife, Carol, of Indian Land, South Carolina. Mark’s life was made richer by the care he received from Diana Good, as well as Betty Morris – who was not only his caregiver, but like “family” to Mark, and allowed him to live at home as long as he did. Mark was also a loyal and devoted cousin, uncle and friend.

In addition to his parents, Mark was preceded in death by his brother, Stephen Brick, who passed away August 26, 2011.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Friday, where the family will be present to receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Pastor Larry Hukill of the church will officiate at a service to be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mark will be laid to rest at Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Following the burial, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for a continued time of fellowship.
