Obituary for Dorothy Ann Payne (Burt)

Dorothy Burt Payne, 79

POLAND – Dorothy Burt Payne, formerly of East Liverpool, passed away Wednesday morning, July 11, 2018 at Sunrise of Poland following a lengthy illness with Alzheimer’s. She was 79.

Born in East Liverpool, October 17, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth Burt and Rose Buchheit Fultz.

A member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1956, she continued her education and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Youngstown State University. She later earned her Master’s Degree in Administration.

She worked as a teacher in the East Liverpool City School District where she spent many years at both La Croft and North Elementary schools. Dorothy was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and later attended the Greenford Christian Church. Dorothy also loved playing volleyball, softball, golf and tennis. She was also an avid card player and belonged to many card groups.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Clifford Payne, whom she married on June 30, 1956. She was also preceded in death by a son Kenneth Payne and a brother Charles “Chuck” Pickens.

Survivors include her two daughters, Brenda Kekel and her husband, Allen, of Columbiana, Alta Marshall and her husband, Don, of Dover, Ohio, as well as two sons, Mike Payne and his wife, Lynn, of Leesburg, Florida, and Jeff Payne and his wife, Luci, of Stow.

There are four grandchildren, Jon-Michael Payne, Nathan Payne, Lisa Highley and Morgan Highley, and one great-granddaughter Zoe Payne. She is also survived by her three sisters, Diane Larriva and her husband, Rene, of Virginia, Norma Webb of Canfield, and Peggy Charlton and her husband, Tom, of East Liverpool.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Thursday July 19th where the family will be present from 3 to 6:30 p.m. where a memorial service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m.

Following the service family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
