Obituary for James O. Cross

James O. Cross, 86

CLERMONT, FL – James O. Cross, of Clermont, Florida, formerly of East Liverpool, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018 at his home in Clermont. He was 86.

Born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, August 31, 1931, he was a son of the late James Earl and Nellie Irene Barnett Cross. He worked at the former Crucible Steel Company until retiring in 1982. Jim then moved to Florida where he worked with his brother for the Cross Construction Company in Naples. At one time, he was a member of the Calcutta United Presbyterian Church and the Tri-State Square Dancers.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peg” McCoy Cross, at home. The couple married October 8, 1950. There are two sons, Terry R. Cross of Clermont and Kenneth W. Cross and his wife, Debra, of Groveland, Florida. He also leaves 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

He also leaves a sister Betty Deem of Portsmouth, Ohio, and two brothers Oliver “Bud” Cross and his wife, Cindy, of Georgia and William Cross and his wife Marie of Florida.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sons: James “Jimmy” Cross, Steve Cross and Randall Lee Cross, and a daughter, Elizabeth A. Cross, as well as three brothers, Robin, Cecil and Gilbert Cross and six sisters, Ethel McNemar, Marguerite Jackson, Eve Beckwith, Neljean Hardesty, Louise Crouser and Violet Graham.

Friends may visit Thursday evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Rev. Dr. Stephen Cramer will conduct a funeral service Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
