Obituary for Ronald L. "Rod" White

Ronald L. “Rod” White, 61

EAST LIVERPOOL – Beloved husband, Dad and Pap, Ronald L. “Rod” White, of Ohio Avenue, passed away Saturday, August 18, 2018 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital while surrounded by his loving family after suddenly taking ill at home earlier in the day. He was 61.

Born in Niagara Falls, New York, February 11, 1957, he was a son of the late Billy Carroll and Lillian Osburn White. His family moved to this area when he was 16 years old and he attended East Liverpool Schools. Most of his career was spent with Woody’s Appliance where he worked alongside his father-in-law Luther “Woody” Woodward and would later own and operate the business. Through the years he had also worked for Sanford Plumbing and Zarbana Industries Inc.

Goodbyes are for those that only love with their eyes. For those that love with their heart and soul there is no separation. Rod was very much loved, is already missed and will always be cherished by all who knew him. An avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and collector of their memorabilia, he also enjoyed motorcycles, fishing, gardening and metal detecting. Always willing to lend a helping hand, especially for the children in the neighborhood, he loved collecting gadgets and tools and anything Steelers.

His wife, Jo Woodward-White, survives at home. The couple married October 7, 1977. Together they raised two daughters: Holli (Gardner) Lovejoy and her husband Jayme of East Liverpool and Mindi Irwin and her husband Brian of East Liverpool.

He loved his 5 grandchildren and enjoyed following their activities and events. He will be sadly missed by Nick and Shane Shreve, Olivia Rayl, Pete Lovejoy and Hunter Gardner.

He is also survived by two sisters: Barbara “Babby” Smith and Penny Pelley and her husband, Jay, all of East Liverpool. He embraced being a part of a large and loving family and will be fondly remembered by many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. He also cared for the fathers of his two grandchildren: Joe Rayl and Jeff Gardner and his aunt and uncle Jim and Annie Osburn of East Liverpool.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Billy Lane “Ziz” White, a brother-in-law Luther E. “Little Woody” Woodward, Jr., and his mother-in-law Ruth Ann Woodward.

Friends may visit Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 1 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
