ROSALIE S. SPENCER, 88

EAST LIVERPOOL – Rosalie S. Spencer, 88, of Pennsylvania Avenue in East Liverpool, passed away peacefully at noon on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at East Liverpool City Hospital, with her husband, Alonzo, at her side.

She was born in Columbus on February 10, 1928, a daughter of the late Virgil and Sarah Jane Justice. A graduate of East High School in Columbus, Ohio, Rosalie met her future husband while they were students at The Ohio State University, where she graduated in 1950 with a degree in Education. Upon her marriage to Alonzo in 1953, Rosalie moved to East Liverpool and soon began a 35-year teaching career with East Liverpool City Schools.

An active member of New Hope Baptist Church, she had been an usher there for many years. Rosalie also belonged to the Alpha Kappa Alpha teaching sorority, and was a life member of the NAACP.

Alonzo survives her at home. Rosalie also leaves behind her daughter, Jo Anne Woodard, and granddaughter Simone Woodard, both of Detroit, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Heard and Geraldine Harris.

The Dawson Funeral Home has been entrusted with Rosalie’s arrangements.
