Obituary for Willis J. Johnston Jr.

Willis J. Johnston, of East Liverpool, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was 86.

Born in East Liverpool, September 21, 1928, he was a son of the late Olive Hebron Johnston and Willis J. Johnston, Sr. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church where he was an elder, a deacon and served as a trustee. He was a 50 year member of the East Liverpool Lodge #681 of the Free and Accepted Masons and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville.

He lived most of his life in East Liverpool except for living in Ft. Myers, Florida for 15 years. Willis worked at the former Crucible Steel Company until retiring in 1982.

His wife, Shirley Meanor Johnston, survives at home. The couple married December 26, 1955.

There are two daughters, Diana Nelms, and her husband Bill, of East Liverpool, Debby Turner, and her husband Ben, of Canton, Georgia, and a son, John Johnston, and his wife Lynn, of Knoxville, Tennessee. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren: Kelly Johnston, Jake VanDevelde, Garrett Turner and Emily Nelms.

Friends may visit Sunday afternoon at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 1 to 4 p.m. Rev. Dr. Stephen Cramer will conduct a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.

Following the service, family and friends will gather at the fellowship hall at Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Memorial tributes may take the form of contributions in care of Trinity Presbyterian Church, 110 Maine Blvd., East Liverpool, Ohio.
