Obituary for Mildred Hoppel

Mildred “Midge” Hoppel, of West Point, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at the Calcutta Health Care Center following a lengthy illness. She was 90.

Born in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, February 3, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Ethel Marshall Wharton. She graduated from East Liverpool High School and lived most of her life in this area. She worked at Worthington Plastics in Salem until her retirement in 1987 after 20 years of service, as well as the Homer Laughlin China Company and Sabatini Shoe Store.

Midge was often called “Grandma Midge”, caring for many of her family members. She was known for being feisty and having a great sense of humor. Midge enjoyed shopping and would be seen traveling around the area every weekend for a bargain at yard sales. She loved spending time with her family and cherished the time spent with her grandchildren.

Her husband, Charles W. Hoppel, preceded her in death in 1992. She was also preceded by three sons, Ricky G. Hoppel, Joe Hoppel and Charles H. “Chuckie” Hoppel, along with a grandson, Joey Hoppel and a sister Lee Hoppel.

She is survived by four grandchildren, Shane Hoppel, and his wife Mary Kay, of Lisbon, Charlene Wilson of Illinois, Brandon Hoppel, and his wife Suzanne, of Calcutta, and Tina Rigby, and her husband Jim, of Wellsville. There are seven great-grandchildren: Kalei, Taylor, Nathan, Brenden, Vince, Sabrina and Nick; and two great-great-grandchildren: Landon and Zachary.

Friends may visit Sunday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Rev. Jason Pancake will conduct a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park.

The family would like to send a special word of thanks to the nurses, aides and staff at the Calcutta Health Care Center, the Emergency Room and ICU staff at the East Liverpool City Hospital for the excellent care that she received and Dr. Aggarwal and his staff for the many years of expert care and commitment.
