I will miss you, Dr. Jackson - there will never be another you.

East Liverpool lost an incredible man, physician, and friend this past Sunday - Dr. J. Fraser Jackson, M.D.
During my 30 years of nursing, I can truly say I have never met another doctor quite like him. He truly LOVED his job and it showed in the way he lived his life, every single day.
I worked along side him at East Liverpool City Hospital in the late 80's. You never knew when he would make rounds, as he was there several times a day on most days. He would always say "I just never know when "one of mine" may decide to pay you girls a visit" and he would give that loving little smile of his. His patients were a part of his family - every single one of them, no exceptions.
It was with his encouragement that I transitioned to working home health in the East Liverpool area for 11 years. He always let me know he trusted my nursing judgement, and there is no better feeling in the world! I could call him day or night, 24/7/365 and know that he would answer, listen, ask for my opinion about the situation and collaborate to do what was the very best for his patient. He always treated me like a partner in the care of his patients, always considering my thoughts and feelings - it is something I will cherish forever. There were many times I would call from a patients house(especially on a Sunday) and the next thing I knew, he was at the door. He was just an amazing man.
The last line of his obituary says it all - “I was so fortunate to be an MD in the best possible city of East Liverpool, Ohio, among the best people ever.” He said it often and he MEANT it with all of his heart.
I will miss you, Dr. Jackson - there will never be another you. <3
